Credit report botched

2years ago I wrote off my car which was financed by MFC. the insurance settled the car as expected to and when the top up cover was meant to kick in for the rest of the fees, initially MFC claimed I never had top up which later on was fixed and the car was properly settled off. during this whole period where I had done everything right, paid all fees till insurance paid the settlement. MFC put me as a bad creditor for no reason, I had done all that I was contractually obliged to do. they eventually removed my name of the bad creditors list but in the ITC it shows that I was in areas for 9moths. how come they could rectify they made a mistake by thinking I still owed them money then still not clean up the damage they made on my credit. now I cant get a home loan coz of this, how did I end up being in areas for a vehicle that was long time settled?
