I bought a 2nd hand car in march 2012, fully serviced just before I purchased it. I took out a policy with AMP at the recomendation of the dealer in the event of any mechanical failure within a year, I would be compensated and have peace of mind. End of December of 2012 my car overheated badly and I did not have AMP's policy with me, so called and arranged with my regular insurance for towing and personally paid fully for repairs to a mechanic willing to help me over the holiday period. When I got home I checked my policy and saw that quotes had to be authorized before work commenced. I called AMP anyway and they said I could try, which I did and my claim was denied. The car drove splendidly for the next 2 months/2000 km then over heated again. Based on my previous experience I made sure I was sending it to an approved workshop and halted all work until my claim was authorized. Unfortunately after continuous attempts for authorization for a week, with my car sitting in the workshop, AMP is still denying any cover for my claim for repairs, on the grounds that it was the same problem previously repaired even though they did not pay a cent for that claim. I still strongly disagree.
