I have a policy that covers mag repairs. After an incident (hit a pothole), I contacted the organisation to get an understanding of what the claim process would be. They requested that I complete a claim form (which is not unreasonable), and get a quotation for the repair.

I went to Tiger Wheel and Tyre to have the mag repaired, and paid for the repairs myself.

Regent is now refusing to settle the claim because the claim was not authorised, and work is already complete.

I believe this policy is purposefully engineered with red tape so that the claim process is annoying and the client would settle the bill, rather than claim against the policy.

I have dealt with several other insurance companies, and claiming for major incident have less administration that this policy for a minor incident.
