Original Invoice for every single item

Just had to submit a claim for a house burglary, 1st time in life of household insurance for 22 years. Item: Ipad, iPhone (old v4, not in use), Sanyo HD cam, all the wife's jewellery. Claim? 20-30K. My household content is insured for 289'000. Why that exact amount, because i recently relocated from MP to WC, and for transit insurance, I had to calc every single items on packaging inventory. So I'm insured spot on, for every single item, (no under and no over insured)

Over 18 years of marriage, you buy your wife a gold bangle here, and a ear rings there, items between R500 - R2000. For 40th, a gold chain of R3500 (not @ China shop). But wait for the day you want to claim. If that jewellery item does not have a valuers certificate, apparently you can NOT claim it. And, you have to produce every little single original invoice of all the goods that was . 2, 3 years old, out of warranty, boy-oh-boy, good luck if you do not have the original invoice.

Imagine my wife's clothes all. Every stop @ WW, cost me R1K - 2K, BUT NO INVOICES. And on those elect., serial numbers alone, also not good enough.

Why does honest people pay insurance, and does everything have a trick?
