Poor service and tarnishment of credit scoring

I have been a client of Absa for the better part of 20years, and what I have come to learn is that your own bank is never willing to help when called upon. I had a cheque account with Absa and closed it as i was being charged ridiculous amounts for bank charges and fees. When i closed the account there was an outstanding overdraft and was paying it off on a monthly basis. This all happened around the time I was about 18/19 years of age so one can be thrifty and reckless, so I would have skipped a few payments here and there as a result it had affected my credit scoring. As I aged I became more diligent and made sure I would settle the account as I knew it would impact me in the latter years. The cheque account was paid in full around 2006 and now come the time I need a vehicle upgrade, my applications were declined by most institutions as Absa had never removed my credit status on their system. I went into a branch to get this sorted out and have been pushed from pillar to post by various people, instructing me to do the work they never did. A week has passed and nothing has been done and am now at the risk of loosing out on this deal. I am at the point of switching institutions.
