Closed account suddenly on my ITC

I had a credit card with ABSA Years ago. Settled the account and emailed them to close the account.
Now 5 years later I find out that I owe them money on this account that has not been used?!?
Firstly: the account was closed by me but apparently not by the bank - they now want proof I closed the account? Where am I going to find that 5 years later?
Secondly: How do you charge amounts on an account that has not been used?
Thirdly: ABSA consultants blatantly told me I have to settle the account. So ABSA kept quiet for 5 years without contacting me about an account so that they can load and load the interest on the account?

I feel like this is money from me - as they never contacted me to say the account wasn't closed or that I owe them money and they now keep me liable for paying 5 year's interest on an account I closed.
