I was a customer of ABSA up to 2006, when due to loss of work and income, all accounts were closed (they declined to reopen any accounts, stating that I need to first show proof of income...). The only account which remained, was the credit card.

In 2011 I received a reminder to pay an outstanding amount on the card, which I did, after requesting that they close the account. I have not since received any statements or correspondence, however, I now constantly receive sms notifications that I need to urgently pay R52 because my credit listing is being negatively affected. I haven't used the card in over 2 years!!!

I called ABSA to query the charge, as well as instructing them to reverse the amount and close the account. since the last phone call on the 15th July, i have received another two sms notifications, but no statements, information or proof of charges. I am clueless as to what the R52 is for.

Way to go ABSA, if I ever considered coming back for service, this has convinced me that FNB is still the best bank by far.
