On the 17th of August, I attempted to withdraw R500 from a Standard Bank ATM. Everything seemed fine, i punched my pin, selected account & amount etc..i waited around 2-3min while i could hear the machine running, nothing came out and my card was retained. However i got a slip showing the R500 was deducted from my account.
I immediately stopped that card and then proceeded to request the funds back, something i could only do on the 19th.
I was passed on from dept to dept at least 3 times, eventually to be told a week later that i will not be credited the amount which never came out the ATM but came off my account!
The official response was that the ATM in question balanced and the money "must have come out at some point". How long did they expect me wait at the ATM after my card was swallowed?
After much debate and no explanation of how this could have occurred and why my card was retained, i was told to go to the ombudsman if i want, because Standard Bank has now closed this case.
I would like to how how much do Standard Bank value a long standing client such as my self with numerous accounts, business and personal, if this is their treatment of such a case.
I'm disgusted!
