Deducted money for 8yr old prescribed debt

I noticed five days ago that R700 has been deducted off my Cheque Account. On the same day a credit card account appeared on my internet banking with a negative balance. Upon investigation at the bank in Stellenbosch it appears that an account I closed 8 years ago has now been brought to my attention with an apparent debt I owe. Firstly, how can FnB deduct money from my Cheque account without my consent, and secondly, if I owe debt and have not been contacted by the creditor in 8 years, surely it becomes prescribed debt.

Please can someone pay this urgent attention and reverse the Demand Deposit of R700.
