Voyager miles taken away with no explanation

I noticed while trying to make a booking that I was missing voyager miles. I discovered in my statement that miles had been taken away on 24 Nov 2013 for activity that took place on 23 Oct 2012.
My first call to the call centre (0860003145) didn't help as the agent couldn't tell me what happened, I was told to send an email to [Email Removed] and they will come back to me, 4 hours later no response. Called the call centre again and the agent advised me that the miles were taken away as they had been allocated by error more than a year ago. She apologised and said there is nothing that can be done about it.

My problem is that someone at SAA didn't do their job properly more than a year ago, and they now see it fit to rectify it without the courtesy of notifying me to let me know about the error and how it is going to be rectified and how this will affect me.

Surely the person that made the error can't just get away with taking the miles away from the customer, surely as the customer deserve better treatment that this.

I would like to get my miles back and that you deal with your inefficiencies internally. There I was ready to make a booking, how disappointing.
