On Thursday last week I had to book a flight urgently to travel to Durban. I often use the Travelstart website, I was however not allowed to make a booking for the next day and I proceeded to contact a call centre.

A very friendly and seemingly very efficient agent called Roelof assisted me and we booked a flight. I paid for the flight and went to the airport on Friday, just to be denied boarding because the flight was booked for 29 January.

I called the Travelstart call centre and by chance Roelof answered the phone. His first words were that to err is human and I should have checked the flight details myself. That really upset me and I ended the call.

The long and the short is that I had to pay R 1216.00 times two on top of my initial payment to fly on the chosen flight, at a total cost of about R 4 200.00 for two one-way flights to Durban. The attitude of the Kulula ticket office, pay up or you will not fly. I am upset with both Travelstart's response to the problem and also that of Kulula. The total price for two one-way tickets was about R 1 100 more than the maximum that kulula charge for any two seats on their Friday flights this week. Tell me that is fair!
