I have been flying SAA almost every week for the past months. However, for this week, I was flying with BA since most of the morning flights on SAA were booked out.
Anyway, on Monday morning 31/07/2013 around 8am, I took my bag to the security to check-in as it had fragile items inside it. At the security check-in, I realized that one of the zips did not have a cable tie and I asked the security if I could quickly ask the closest check-in assistance at the SAA Platinum terminal for a cable tie as it was situated directly across the security baggage check-in.
When I asked the SAA lady at the terminal nicely for a cable tie, she asked me if I was flying SAA and I said no, but I normally do. She abruptly told me no that I couldn't get one. I was shocked at this lady's answer because a cable tie doesn't really cost anything. And I could have gone all the way to BA, but it was too far as the security needed to check in my bag. Anyway, I sent it without locking it, and with the will of it arrived safely.
My concern is just that as a regular SAA customer, I just don't feel that SAA is as helpful and kind as I thought it was should this be the policy of SAA.
