Mtn
Poor internal security for customers

Telecommunications

My ipad was 1/4/13 under suspicious circumstances from home (alarm still on, all doors locked - most likely taken through open window) so at first we thought it was just misplaced. I do take full responsibility for not cancelling contract but it transpired that over the next day or so, micro sim had been removed from ipad and used to make calls/smses to the value of about R11 000! (in just over a 24 hr period according to MTN!) My bill is in general under R600 pm (with a couple exceptions - but still spread out over the entire month, and max approx R2000) and only ever used for data. I find it unacceptable that it was allowed to get to R11000, including now for calls and smses and all in just over a day's time before it was considered suspicious activity! Yes, I am responsible for calling to block the account, but as I said, we at first thought it had been misplaced. Surely internal security measures should be in place where, when a certain limit is met, especially new activity (ie in this case phone calls and smses), and especially in such a short period that the account is immediately suspended/etc and not anywhere near R11000! I am now responsible for this account.
