Bad Standard Operating Procedures

I would like to start by stating that I have been a loyal Cell C customer for more that 10 years.
I dropped my Samsung phone last night but wasn't to perturbed, since I took out insurance on my contract.
This morning I called Cell C to make arrangements to have my phone repaired and was informed that my insurance was cancelled when I got my last upgrade and that this was STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE (What???) I suppose it is to much to ask that they also make it standard operating procedure to inform their clients of this and give them the option to renew their insurance with the new handset.
My bills go directly to work so that is not something I would have noticed. I also feel that Cell C should take the time to go through these details with customers when upgrading, rather than being backhanded in their practises.
