Sick of being punished by MTN

I have been a loyal customer of MTN for 12 years. For more than a year now, I have not used the full allocation of minutes I am paying for, as I have changed jobs and my airtime needs are substantially reduced. I did not downgrade, as I would have to pay substantial penalties. When wanting to upgrade today I was told that I could not downgrade to a lower package if I wanted to upgrade my telephone until the full contract period had expired. I could understand if I had to pay the full amount to the end of this contract period, but not allowing me to downgrade contracts and upgrade the phone now? You had no such problems when I previously wanted to upgrade my package! Then, to top it all, when I told the shop assistant that I would get my phone elsewhere (I have to, the Nokia I got on my previous upgrade has the typical Nokia related problem of the battery failing and not holding any charge), she simply said, "OK." No attempt at even retaining my custom.
