Downgrade NOT Upgrade

I was informed by MTN that I apply for an upgrade to my current cellphone contract. The word upgrade is what is particularly frustrating for me as I've effectively been downgraded to a TopUp Contract from my open line contract. I find it very weird that they refer to it as an upgrade but it is effectively worse than the contract that I had previously, one would think that upgrade means you are being moved to a better package and I struggle to see how a Top Up would be an upgrade to an Open Line contract and this was done without my understanding. The phone is an upgrade no doubt, but the contract itself is a massive downgrade and right in the middle of an emergency phone call I found this out. Not acceptable at all MTN. I'm now trying to get them to change it back to what it actually was and I've been transferred to ALL departments of MTN the entire morning and had a lady giving me lip at the same time, but I''ve paid my account without fail on time every month. I've been holding for 25 minutes on one of the number i have been given to add to the two 15 minute sessions I had to hold for this morning.
