Misinformed re contract and suspended service

I have had a contract with vodacom for over 10 years and never had any problems. Then in February 2012, I added a contract that gave me a 1 gig data bundle for R99 per month. The contract stated that if I used more than 1 gig per month, the additional data usage would be billed to my account. I specifically asked the sales consultant at Game, Canal Walk if I will know when I exceed 1 gig, and he informed me that I will receive an sms notification if I was about to exceed the 1 gig.
Until November 2012 I never exceeded the 1 gig. Then in December I got Data bill for about R300, January for R1660, Feb for R2688 and March for R975. I refused to pay and therefore my service is suspended until they finish their investigation (14 working days)
I have NOT increased my internet usage and mainly use e-mail and browse the internet. I don't download videos, etc. and don't even have a face book account. Even if I did, I did not receive the sms notification and was therefore unaware that I exceeded my data bundle. I was told that I will be notified if I exceed my 1 gig.
