Impossible to close MTN Contract

I've spent in excess of 6 hours in MTN shops trying to close my MTN Contact.

Its more than a year after the earliest date to close it and I'm being given a run-around constantly. First I was told to return with a company letterhead stating my intention to close the account. After doing that, I was told to fax it to their call center. Then I was told that I don't need that, I only need to phone their call another center - but when I called that number i'm being redirected in an endless loop of automated voice prompt - even after spending more than an hour visiting every single possible option on their call center system, I still got no closer to closing my account or speaking to someone who can assist.

PS I don't want to close it, simply convert it back to pre-paid.

I am currently on a R500 per month Top-up Contract - but I can not convert that R500 into data despite being told that I would be able to - by an agent who shortly after selling me the contract letf the branch. A battle I gave up on shortly after entering the contract.

Does anyone know what the proper, irrefutable method is to cancel my contract with MTNSP?
