HIGH BILLING AFTER 3 DAYS IN THE UAE

I went to the UAE on the 1st of March and returned on the 4th of March. On returning to South Africa i checked my billing information and discovered that my account was already standing on R2098.72, I didn't phone at all and received a few bbm's. I just phoned Cell C and the call centre agent told me that there is nothing she can do about this because I was supposed to switch of my GPRS, which I don't even know were to do. She told me even though my phone was off most off the time if someone phones me and it goes over to voicemail I am still responsible to pay for that. I feel that it's unfair to get such a big bill. I am a customer for almost 10 years and I have never missed a payment but I know that I am going to have a difficult time to pay this bill. Is there something you can do to assist me in this situation?
