Account cancellation not accepted

My last 2 year contract with Vodacom terminated in December 2012. I notified them by email to terminate this service with 30 days notice on 31 January 2013. When they failed to respond I followed up on this mail by mail again on 4 Feb 2013.When they responded they requested information already supplied to them in the mails they were responding too, and certified copies of my id, which I immediately mailed to them.
They seemed unable to link my mails to them to my query and my account, despite all having clear account numbers, names, telephone numbers and their own reference numbers on. I obviously stopped the debit order instruction they have with my bank since I gave them written notice of the termination of our agreement.
Now I get mails claiming I owe them money and threatening legal action against me.
I dealt with Vodacom for more than 15 years - over that time they should they care f_all for me as customer.
By not accepting and cancelling my account with them, despite all invoices being fully paid, upon receipt of both written instruction to me and instruction to the same effect at their call centre, they violated the agreements I have with them.
