Overcharging with no assistance or refund

We cancelled 2 contracts back in December on and converted them to pre-paid
We paid close to R4000 to cancel these contracts early and did not use either phone during the whole month of January. We received no invoices/statements for the month of January, yet on the 27th January 2014 they debited my account with R1, 280.00

My Husband has just spent another hour in Vodacom World Trying to Speak to a Manager with no result, this is after 3 days of phone calls being pushed from contracts to billing, back to contracts, then back to customer care. Not only could no-one help, but they also couldn't even tell him where the charge had come from because the phones had already been changed to prepaid.
