Very high data usage vodacom mobile

I have a my gig 1 contract which I took out at Fish hoek about a year ago. I use a 3G dongle to access the internet on my laptop and had no problems until about a month ago. For some reason, 7out of ten times the megabite usage just flies high. For example, while waiting for Gumtree to open, about 20 megs has allready been used. Normally, I can surf the net for an hour and only use about 20 megs. I dare not open youtube as it will up the whole gig in an hour. Before the gig would easily last the month using the net as I do now. Now the gig lasts 5 days if I'm lucky. So I went to Vodacom in Fish hoek to ask for an explanation and got a disinterested, vague reply that maybe its busy updating and that was sort of ok you can go now. Can anyone on this site maybe throw some light on this problem. Thanks so much Albert.
