MTN billing contracts make no sense. Rip Off

Despite having the highest call charges I joined mtn largely for service and the contract offer. However now I find myself regretting this decision. Their billing makes no sense. On a pure data bundle 500mb of data is R49 per month WITH a "free" router. On my cell phone contract its R149 for a 500mb data. Ok, let me take out a data contract and link it to my current sim card... makes sense... nope firstly explaining and then trying to implement, honestly it felt like I was asking them to design a NASA space shuttle. So they do not want me to open a second contract and extend my relationship and tie myself in for an additional 24 months. Please explain your pricing and answer why existing loyal customers are being overcharged.
