After giving up on waiting for the response I was promised, I have eventually gone into my local Telkom shop - not an easy thing to arrange when you're a full time working mom. Kudos to Andiswa who was professional and helpful.

Unfortunately, she tells me that the fault was indeed on Telkom's part and the reason the contract was uncapped was because her system and the Telkom main system did not interface correctly and the instructions loaded on her side were not recorded at HQ. I'd like someone to tell me why I should have to pay for Telkom's system failure? I'm sure there would be a penalty for me should my bank not receive my approval for the direct debit due to go off my account tomorrow? I think I should penalize Telkom, in the amount of, oh, I don't know - R499.50 perhaps?

I would also like to know how a 'telecommunication' company can be so very hard to communicate with?! I'm very disappointed with the service I have received and I would sincerely like an official response other than 'apologies for the inconvenience'.
