Vodacom
Galaxy S4 issue when migrating from Vodacom to MTN

Telecommunications

Some months ago, I renewed my Vodacom contract and upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S4, which I gave to my wife (on an MTN contract under my name). Two weeks ago, the phone began to play up, intermittently producing a "No SIM" error message and effectively cutting off my wife from the network. We took the phone to Samsung on two occasions, and on both occasions were told there was an issue with the Galaxy S4 relating to embedded Vodacom software (firmware?) - which, I might add, is very instrusive. The software was reloaded by Samsung (actually, I think it was downgraded), losing all our data, but it still failed to work for more than a few minutes at a time.

We then decided a faulty SIM might be the problem (although SIM cards are known to be quite robust), and proceeded to do a SIM swop. After several calls to MTN, however, and two SIM "refreshes", we still cannot connect.

I would now like to know from Vodacom whether they are aware of any glitch related to the Galaxy S4 when migrating to another network (as far as I know, network blocking is not legal in South Africa) - and if so, what they intend to do about it. How big is the problem? Just Google "Galaxy s4 no sim"
