Call centre can' get roaming sswitched on

I wanted to activate international roaming, and as per virgin's website you need to call the call centre 5 days in advance before your departure. I phoned them the first time on Thursday 5 December (travelling the 12th), gave my details and then the line was just disconnected. I tried phoning again on the Friday and again Monday but even time as I got to a consultant, the call would drop. Finally reached someone on Tuesday, who said they could see a request was logged originally but hasn't been followed up. Person assured me a technician would be phoningme to help solve problem, but now on departure day still haven't heard any new news. Call centre is just unreliable (calls always dropping) and doesn't feel like any real help is being offered to solve the issue.
