MTN: billed for closed contract and refused refund

I was contacted by MTN informing me I was due for an upgrade. I told the caller that I had closed the account in September. When I checked my bank account I see that MTN had taken the money from my account. Upon further investigation I discovered that MTN had not closed my account. I asked them again to close the account, sending them the proof of the cancellation in September. Now MTN refuse to refund my money or saying that there is usage on the account, but the itemized bill they sent shows no activity and they refuse to prove it. I cannot get to the contracts call center, only the pay as you go call center because the sim is now a pay as you go. No one from the customer care or the retention department will get back to me. I gave my contact details to the call center assistant to get someone to call me. It's now been 4 days.
Typical poor service from another bad South African company.
