Vodacom
Vodacom won't honour warranty

Telecommunications

My iPhone 5's the speakerphone microphone doesn't work (I'm not sure if it ever worked since I use the EarPods that come with the device as a handsfree kit). The sleep/wake button has become unresponsive and only works when pushed really hard.

I called 111 and was told to take it into a Vodacom Care branch and that it was covered under a 2 year warranty.

I took the device into to the Sandton branch and as soon as I hand over the phone I am told that because there is unrelated superficial damage to the outside of the phone, any repairs done will be charged since this voids the warranty.

I have been using the phone for 9 months. The external damage to the aluminium body of the phone occurred months before the faults developed. A friend of mine had the same fault and superficial damage to the outside of the phone and MTN completely replaced her phone twice.

Why does Vodacom think that they are able to use unrelated characteristics of a device as a loophole to invalidate a warranty? This is like BMW telling me that they won't honour the warranty on my engine because there's a chip in my windscreen. Shame on you Vodacom.
