Insurance no longer offered

Good day, in August I received an sms offering a discounted insurance cover for my S4. I replied with a YES as requested. After not being called I called in and was told the insurance dept will call me back as they can't put me through. The lady did call, she was ready to process the application when she told me my phone is over 3 months old and can't be covered anymore. When we spoke yes it was but when I responded to that sms it wasn't. MTN didn't call me back as per the sms I had to call in. Why then even offer me insurance in the first place? And since I responded to the sms on time and have proof why refuse to cover me? I'm taking this now here because I've tried reaching out to get an explanation from Mtn but nothing.
