Huge bill increase after migration

I have 2 sons studying, supported by me and my wife. To stay in touch with them, we signed for Top Up 360 contracts, which allowed the cost to be controlled to R676 for both. On the odd occation we added a couple of extra minutes through pre-paid. Recently I was phoned by a Vodacom tele-marketer, who expained to me that a promotion called Smart was run by Vodacom that will be to my benefit. In these difficult times I was very grateful that a reputable company such as Vodacom would take the effort to inform loyal customers of such oppurtunities. I believed in error that I was making a Smart choice.

I have received the latest monthly bill today, R4123.98 for my sons contracts. I struggle to believe that any company would pursue such un-ethical means to increase their profits. Surely a limit must exist on fair tactics and treating your loyal customers with some degree of consideration.
