Exhorbitant bill on broken modem

About a month ago, I queried that my MTN modem is faulty (broken 2 months now). Since the modem has been broken, my July bill was over R1500 and the August bill over R1300, which is being investigated. However, I am still being billed - it already stands at R645 for the new month. As I am not able to get to an MTN shop - my only way of addressing this is to have the contract cancelled and now I am told I have to pay a cancellation fee as well. I have now been billed for something that is not in use and in order to stop being billed I have to pay?? I am a loyal customer that has ran up bills of up to R8000 which was paid without issue - MTN is very close to losing me and all FOUR my contracts!!
