They gave me a new contract instead of upgrading

I did an upgrade online by using my online profile and clicking upgrade & following prompts. It also stated that I would get it the next day which it didnt. The phone arrived and I noticed that the new phones have a mirco sim, which my current wasnt, but then I found deep in the box a microsim card. I called the 082111 & was told by them that they would do a sim swop onto the microsim & everything will be working within 4-24 hours. So I kept using my old phone & sim for the afternoon. Later that evening I got a sms saying I had a new contract added to my account. I decided to wait till the following morning to try & speak to them. The next morning, a saturday, I waited over 40minutes to speak to a consultant only to be told me, after all that holding, that I had the wrong department & they transferred me.14 goes of the same 3 songs later I get to upgrades& after a total of 3h45 I am told I need to wait for Monday as they gave me a new contract & not an upgrade. I called today (Mon) & after 5 hrs and countless departments I am told the following: They will cancel the new contract and collect the phone, I can upgrade again but the phone is not in stock and I cant keep the one they gave me!
