Sony Xperia V water damage... REALLY??

I recently bought myself a Sony Xperia V. I did it because it is claimed to be dust and water resistant. It fell in my zinc wile doing dishes, but somehow the phone got wet inside and the screen just went from bright to dim then to completely off.

So I contacted MTN who just declared the BER within days but how can that be if the phone's alarm goes off EVERY morning?? When i connect the phone to my pc i can still view everything inside, but it is declared BER??

I feel that the phone was actively advertised as being water resistant, so for it to be damaged by water is in complete contrast with what led me to buy the phone in the first place.
