In July I did a trip to the Fish River Canyon in Namibia. A trip that is closer than Cape Town but on the other side of our boarders - i was there for less than 3 days. I enabled data roaming as I needed access to my emails over this short period. The best data signal available was edge, however I was not able to receive nor send any email or any other data service during this period. On my return to SA my first SMS was from Vodacom to tell me my roaming bill had exceeded R5000.00. I lodged a complaint and was told that I had indeed used around around 200megs of data and that they cannot guarantee that I get my mails or other data services. My complaint is this, as Vodacom selects the partners they have roaming agreements with surely they should be responsible for the service received? Why should I, the customer pay for unstable services and partner providing the service gets off Scott free? I believe Vodacom should stand up of us as the customer and take on their partners... This extremely disappointing.
