I received an invoice from MTN last year July. I am not with MTN so I called in to find out 3 cell phones were taken out in my name with my ID and all other info. I reported. I did everything they told me to, went to the police etc. I sent them all documents to prove it was not me opening the accounts. They have called me numerous times wanting money and I have repeated myself over and over. The name used to open the account was incorrect, the bank name was not exactly right. The branch code was wrong, the type of account was wrong, My street address was wrong but they still gave the the phones. There is no match on the signature or proof of residence as all account openers need to open anything. I now have a lawyer calling me wanting money as MTN passed it on. They are clearly not doing their job as this could have been proven by CCTV from the store and proven if they followed procedures when opening an account. The store employees should be liable as they did not follow procedure or they were in on the act. It has cost me a large sum of money to clear my name and change my bank details.
