Trying to cancel a contract for a deceased estate

Telecommunications

My father passed away in April. He had a 2GB monthly data contract. I found the form to transfer an account on the MTN website, filled in all the information and faxed and e-mailed it to MTN Service Provider. My mother was quite happy for the contract to be transferred to her and for MTN SP to debit her account.

No response. Zip. Nada. Debit order against my father's account (which now has no income and no funds) was presented and bounced. Phoned MTN SP. Call centre person told me that "it doesn't work like that" and "you have to go to an MTN shop". Told him that my Mom doesn't have transport, and as she has never worked or had any credit ever, that it was unlikely that a credit check would pass. Told him that I had no choice but to cancel the contract.

Spoke to legal department person. Got e-mail address for sending documents. Sent death certificate etc. Got automatic response with reference number and a bland statement that it takes 45 working hours for a query to be attended to. That was three weeks ago.

Today, I attempted to find a contact number for MTN's Legal Department on the [URL Removed] website. Nothing. Tried the regular call centre. Call dropped twice.
