Nashua Mobile
What Consumer Protection Act?

Telecommunications

I have been a client of Nashua Mobile for at least 5 - 7 years and to this day have not defaulted on a single payment. Due to the nature of my work I constantly exceeded the free minutes included in my cell phone package by approximately R1, 200 per month. My cell phone contract was up for renewal in August/September 2012 and after consulting with my local Nashua Mobile branch I was told the answer to my problems will be to upgrade from an MTN Anytime 1200 to a MTN Anytime 1500. This ended up being a big mistake as I now pay exactly what I used to pay, the split is just slightly different and again I am bound by a 24 month contract. After raising my concerns with NM (again not defaulting on a single payment) I was told that MTN is the most expensive service provider within SA. Even though the CPA allows me to cancel a fixed agreement giving 20 days written notice and just paying for goods received (phone), services provided and discounts received I am bullied by NM into paying an additional R6270 which I have to pay first before my contract will be cancelled.

My question to NM and anyone reading this complaint is, WHAT CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT applies to Nashua Mobile.
