ADSL PROBLEMS NOT SORTED OUT - MONTHS!

I am at my wits' end. I spend at least 2 hours a week trying to get through to telkom's call centers, sometimes successful but mostly not to complain about my excruciatingly slow connection, or complete lack of one. Yesterday, after a 15 minute call, trying to resolve the issue, I was simply cut off, and no one called back. Is this normal to have an ADSL line that does not allow you access for at least half your workday? My productivity levels are severely dropping, and the tenants in my building complaining non stop.
I cannot wait for another service provider to end their non performing monopoly.
Can anyone suggest a better way forward, my Estate Agency is suffering as a result of this bad product and service.
