Contract cancelled - yet still taking money

Well I cancelled my contract in January, every month I had a fight cause money was taken off my account. They told me end of April will be the last time that money will be deducted... surprise surprise it was deducted again end of May. Now I get told the contract was never cancelled after phoning every month since January.
No response has been received from anyone. I find it disturbing that you get told you will be phone and never do. How hard can it be to cancel a contract???
