When I received my March statement I was quite shocked to see an additional R711.38 charge for data. So I contacted Cell C call centre on 5 May 2013 to determine what the charges are for. The lady I spoke to said she is unsure and will escalate the issue and I will be contacted within 4 days, but was able to point out that more than 1 gig data was downloaded on 18 March prior to 6am when I was asleep.

By 21 May I still had no response and I called again. I spoke to Lauren who said that the query was never escalated as there was no record of this. She then agreed to escalate the matter and that I can expect a call back within 48 hours.
I received my call back on 23 May 2013 from Thebogo. According to him, the charges are valid, Cell C have not made any errors, and I need to follow up with the CPA if I am unhappy. I explained to him that it is impossible for there to be that amount of data transfer. He was able to give me the websites that the data was downloaded from - African research communications and Microsoft. I have never visited either of these websites in my life and Cell C refuse to tell me what was downloaded.

I know for a fact that the statement cannot be correct
