Cancelled Contract billed 3 months later!

In December last year I cancelled my contract, the process went very smoothly. I got a call from the manager offering my 3 months free membership to think about whether I still want a cancelled contract. I declined at first but he assured me 'Take the 3 months free, we will call you after that period to see whether or not you would like to re instate your contract' so I accepted. I did not use the 3 months free. Now after 3 months I got billed an amount of R456. I called to complain only to be told that the contract was automatically reinstated after the 3 months. I requested that they play the recording of the manager's previous conversation with me only to be told that that manager has left and there is now a new one. I would like to be reimbursed for this amount and have my contract cancelled for good. This seems like an impossible process as I keep getting referred to another person!
