Have to pay more than the original contract!

Telecommunications

From 2011 to 2012 I had a contract with Vodacom for about R150 a month. In March 2012 I was due for an upgrade. I got a Talk 130 contract with a reduced subscription and free BIS. End of March 2013 they cancelled my BIS and the reduced subscription BUT I was not allowed to terminate my contract even though it was the end of the 24 month contract. When I asked them why they said I owe them 2 months of "contract" because I upgraded on the previous contract on 22 months. Thus for the next two months I have to pay this contract's amount without the reduced subscription and pay for my BIS, almost 3 times more than the 2011 contract on which I apparently owe 2 months of contract. Why can't I cancel my contract when the 24 months are over but have to pay more than the contract I signed just to "hang around" for the 2 months? And then the customer service told me they cannot explain it to me, I just have to pay. Why can I not "hang around" the 2 months and pay the R150 of the contract I "owe" the 2 months?
