No stock - Inventory system not up to scratch

I ordered a pair of shoes with Zando on the 13th of January on sale for 50% off. When I ordered the website kindly indicated that there were 3 size 7's in stock. I paid by card and received my order confirmation. 2 days later on the 15th I'm told in an email that the item is actually out of stock. The description on the site says that there are no more size 7's and the item is no longer on sale. In the email I'm also told that no new stock can be attained.

Judging from the numerous other complaints against Zando for out of stock items it's quite clear that Zando's inventory and stock system is not automated and possibly relies on manual entry by staff. This leads to customers purchasing stock that does not exist which puts Zando at a huge disadvantage to any competing online retailers who use automated stock systems to ensure customers cannot purchase items that are not available. In all my years of online shopping this has never happened, but it happened on my very first purchase with Zando. I've requested a refund and I'm interested to see how long it takes.

My advice would be to only purchase from Zando with the COD option to avoid refund and delivery hassles.
