70% paid Acc.. Holiday Season - Came to suspension

As most of South Africans, I went away over the December holidays. As I did not receive any bills, I have decided to pay some amount just to have at least something reflecting on my account.
In the previous month or two, I paid almost double the amount owed. Nothing was said.
When I came to the December instalment, I made the same payment as before (As I did not have the invoice / statement at hand)
On return early January, I received a very RUDE call from customer care / accounts, stating that I need to make immediate payment else my account will be handed to legal.
I told the RUDE person, that I will make payment with the next payment, due at the end of the month. As I have already paid 70% of the outstanding amount, and will add the difference to my next payment. He was very rude and nasty and said that I'm in breach with the contract and need to make payment right away. He also asked me when I get paid every month. (Don't think this has anything to do with them when I get paid.)
During the last couple of days I tried using my account, to which I discovered the account was suspended.
I really think this is unacceptable, as I have never been late with any payments before.
