Refusal to refund money

I went to Multisuare at Northmead Square to buy a lock for my sliding door, I didn't't have a sample and the person said that if there is a problem I can return it and receive a refund if they don't have the right lock. When I got home I realised the lock wont fit and when I took it back they didn't have the right lock, the cashier refused to give my money back, I even phoned the manager as he already left for home (this was at 16H15) and he spoke to the cashier and it sounded that she would refund me. After her conversation with the manager she said that I had to go back the next morning and there is nothing she can do. What does difference does one day make? Bad service and worse attitude! Now I have to take time off work to go and get my refund!
