Pathetic after sales service

I recently purchased a TomTom from Makro, I found that the device does not come on each and every time I try to switch it on and on a trip from Kokstad to Durban it failed to come on at all, I subsequently took it back to Makro asking that it be exchanged for a fully functioning device, however I was told that the device has to be sent to the supplier where it will be repaired and this takes up to 21 working days, I can't seem to understand why Makro is inconveniencing its customer's in this manner, surely the device can be exchanged for a working one considering it is less than two months old and the matter then resolved between Makro and the supplier with me be inconvenienced in this matter.

I would further like to add that I stood around for and hour and a half waiting for a manager who told me the exact same thing that lady at the returns desk told me, it seems like nobody at the store can make a decision which I find ridiculous as the device was clearly malfunctioning as it was coming on intermittently in the store as well.

Why can't Makro just give me a working device?
