We are a retired couple & purchased a mini I-Pad from Makro Crown Mines on 19 Feb. On opening the box on 24 Feb so that my son could set it up for me, he pointed out to me that there were a number of scratches on the back of the device, furthermore the device did not have 3G, which I did not know about. I tried to return the I-Pad to Makro Crown Mines & upgrade to one with 3G, paying in the difference. They have refused to exchange the unit or allow me to buy an upgrade with 3G. Their store clearly states that goods are returnable within 14 days, nobody pointed out to me that this excludes the I-Pad, and R5000 later we have a unit that is defective and does not have what we need to keep in touch with our family and Makro refuses to assist us.
Makro's website says that I have the right as a consumer to be properly informed about the goods I am purchasing, the box was not opened in front of me and the scratches only evident once I opened it at home. Their consumer rights also state that I have the right to return goods purchased from the store and now Makro have shown me that none of these is true of Makro's dealings.
