Why till prices differ from Shelf prices?

On Sat, 05/10/2013 at around 8h20, I bought a packet of Kleenex 8x10 3-ply men' s tissues at Siyabuswa Shoprite. The prices on the shelves said they cost R21.99. I only checked my till slip that evening and only to fimd out I paid R25.99 for the tissues. The next morning, Sun the 6th, I went back to Shoprite to buy a bottle of 5L of still water but I was in a hurry so I couldn't raise the tissue issue with them. On the shelves the water was R14.99 but on at the till it scanned R17.99. I told the cashier the shelve price but she told me there is nothing she can do about it. I was in too much hurry to argue it out and just told her to cancel everything and left.

It is sad cause these were not the only occasions where such an incident happened to me in Siyabuswa Shoprite. About two months back I bought a pen which also scanned more than the shelve price but in that occasion I demanded them to refund me the difference and they did.

I am now worried how many more people get ripped off by Shoprite with its inaccurate prices because when you buy a lot of groceries you do not check every item on your receipt.

Please tell them to work on the matter and avoid such a mistake in future.
