Refusal to return goods

On the 21 Jan 2013 I bought a dinner set from @Home. Yesterday I took out the goods to use them but I realised that some items in the box were damaged (having chips/cracks). When I went back to the store to exchange the goods; I was told that the goods cannot be taken back because I had signed for quality check of the goods. The lady that assisted me on that day did open the box; but she was the one doing the checking not me. I cannot he held responsible for her incompetence. It's either she didn't check properly or there is something wrong with their packaging. I cannot keep damaged goods. The Sales Manager (Grant) refuses to exchange or return the goods saying they got damaged while undet my custody and that they were checked infront of me and that I signed for that. The sales lady simply gave me the slip to sign without explaining anything; and I also didn't check the goods until I got home. I believe that I have the right to return the goods if I am not happy with their condition.
