Guarantee? Shocking!

We bought a TV from HiFi Corporation due to the fact that it came with a 5 year manufacturers guarantee (this was 4 years ago). Upon wanting to return the TV on 9 August, due to it being faulty, the Customer Care staff told us that it is no longer a guarantee but a warranty, and that they are the same thing. We then asked for the Store Manager, Welcome, and he could not tell us the difference between a guarantee and a warranty (also telling us they are the same thing). They are adamant in wanting to take our TV in for repairs but we specifically bought a TV with a guarantee in order for it to be replaced should there be any problems within the guarantee period. According to them, the CPA says that a guarantee and warranty are the same thing. Surely, with the CPA coming into effect in 2011 does not override our guarantee period because we bought a TV prior to that in any case. This is absolutely ridiculous and I will never buy from HiFi Corporation again and will certainly never recommend them to anyone.
